CHAPTER 3 - CHRIST’S VIRGIN BIRTH, SINLESS LIFE, ATONING DEATH, RESURRECTION, ASCENSION AND ABIDING INTERCESSION, HIS SECOND COMING AND MILLENNIAL REIGN ON EARTH

3.1 INCARNATION AND VIRG1N BIRTH OF OUR LORD

According to the teaching of the Scriptures, Christ is One of the ‘Persons in the Godhead; one with the Father in Essence, Nature and Attributes; Son of God, Essential, Absolute, and Eternal; Co-equal with God, and Very God of Very God. The Incarnation and Virgin Birth are two incontrovertible truths which are definitely taught in Scriptures, and are therefore essential to the Christian faith and doctrine. In the Incarnation, He condescended to take to Himself the human nature. He was conceived of the Holy Ghost and born of a virgin, and was holy in His birth - the seed of the woman, yet not of man. In Eden, man was created in the image of God: In the Incarnation God was made in the likeness of man. This is the Mystery of mysteries, as the Scriptures declare: “Without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the Flesh” (I Tim. 3: 16; John 1: 1; Col. 1: 15; Heb. 1: 3; Rev. 1:8).

3.2 SINLESS LIFE OF THE LORD JESUS

Whatever mystery is enshrouded in the Incarnation, it should be remembered that Jesus Christ never ceased to be the Son of God when He took upon Him human nature. To affirm that He was man only is a travesty of the Scriptures. The denial of His Deity would mean the destruction of the whole fabric of Christianity. On the other hand, to assert that he was Divine only has no Scriptural warrant. He was the God-Man; One person with two natures. He was sinless, guileless, holy. He was the unique exception in the history of the race (John 8:46; 14: 30; Luke 1: 35; Phil. 2: 6 - 8; Heb. 4: 15; 7: 26; I Pet. 2: 22).

3.3 ATONEMENT THROUGH OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST

The atoning death of the Lord Jesus Christ is the central thought and fact in the Bible, and His expiatory death for sinners is the only hope for Mankind. In the atoning sacrifice of Christ a full provision has been made for the salvation of the Human race. The offering of Himself for our sins is the only ground of our acceptance by a holy God. Faith alone in His work on our behalf can bring reconciliation with God and peace to our conscience. (II Cor. 5: 19; Eph. 1: 7; Rom. 3: 25).

3.4 RESURRECTION OF CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD

As the incarnation and atonement of Jesus Christ are the two pillars, upon which the arch of redemption is built, so His resurrection is the keystone that binds together in one the complete structure. The four Gospel declare that the resurrection of Christ was literal; actual, bodily. This was the convincing truth that Peter expressed on the Day of Pentecost, and by which also the Apostle Paul refuted both Jewish religionists and pagan philosophers. The resurrection of Christ is also the proof of His Deity, the seal of our pardon and the pledge of our resurrection. (Matt. 28: 5, 6; Mark 16: 6; Lk. 24: 6, 7, 15; John 20: 2 - 8; Romans 1: 4; 6: 9; I Cor. 15: 4).

3.5 ASCENSION AND ABIDING INTERCESSION OF CHRIST

The next great event enumerated is the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ on high to the right hand of God the Father. He is exalted as Lord over all intelligence. He has entered into the Heavenly Sanctuary and ministers there now as our High Priest. (Acts 2: 36; Eph. 1:20, 21; Phil. 2:9 - 11; Heb. 2: 17; 9: 11, 24).

3.6 THE SECOND COMING OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST HIS COMING TO THE AIR

Our Lord’s present session will cease when He will appear again in His Second Coming; first to the air, when The dead in Christ shall rise first then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the Air”. (I Thess. 4: 16, 17).

3.7 SAINTS’ PREPARATION

Great emphasis is laid in Scripture on the preparation necessary for our Lord’s Second Coming. The Saints should be watching and waiting for His Coming, loving His appearing and purifying themselves in view of His Coming, realising that without holiness no man shall see the Lord. (II Tim. 4: 8; Titus 2:11 - 15; I John 3: 2, 3; Heb.12: 14).

3.8 JUDGEMENT OF SAINTS

Following His Coming for His Saints is their appearance before His Judgment Seat, where the believers are judged and rewarded according to the deeds done in the body. (Matt. 24: 42 – 51; I Cor. 3: 11-15; II Cor. 5: 10).

3.9 HIS RETURN TO EARTH

The next event is the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, followed by His return in all His Glory with His Saints, to usher in the Millennial Age in which He will establish His Kingdom, Judge the Nations, and reign in righteousness. (Rev. 19: 7 - 9; Matt. 23: 39; Mk. 13: 26; Luke 21: 27; Acts 1: 11; 3: 19- 21; Zech. 14: 4; Isaiah 9: 7; Rev. 22: 20).

3.10 POST-MILLENNIAL EVENTS

The millennium will be followed by a short period when the rebellion in the heart of men shall be again revealed. Satan. having been released from the bottomless pit, again leads man to a final and open rebellion against God. This is crushed by the direct intervention of God. Fire falls from heaven and devours them, and the devil that deceived them is cast into the lake of fire and brimstone. Those who stand before the Great White Throne shall then have their final and eternal destiny revealed and sealed. (Rev. 20: 7, 15).
